Arboriculture can be considered to have a similar relationship to forestry as gardening has to agriculture. Arboriculture is practiced in urban forestry though sometimes we also talk about urban forestry.

Three-quarters of the European population live in urban areas. Hence, the value of trees, parks, and small urban forests has increasingly been recognized as a vital component in the maintenance and improvement of healthy and attractive environments in towns and cities. Apart from visual function, urban trees and forest offer reduction of pollution, shelter, environmental amelioration, and recreational benefits.
