Higher forestry-related education is provided widely across the Europe. Studies can roughly be categorised as undergraduate studies (Bachelor level or equivalent) that usually last for three years and postgraduate studies that include Master and Doctoral level studies, lasting usually for two and three years, respectively.

Forestry is an interdisciplinary field of science and educational institutions are oriented in one or more specialisations in forestry. Due to the tendency of merging departments and faculties into larger administrative units, forestry is often taught in faculties such as Earth Sciences, Biosciences, Natural Sciences or Environmental Sciences.
