Stora Enso

Bioenergy is energy that is generated from renewable biomass, i.e. living plants, including trees. Biomass is a renewable material that has the potential to replace fossil fuels to a much larger extent than at present. The sources of biomass include forest residues (pruning and harvesting waste), sawmilling waste, recycled wood, and energy plantations which are managed with the aim of optimizing the production of wood for fuel. Biofuels are usually in the form of wood chips, which may or may not be made into briquettes.

The European Biomass Association (AEBIOM) represents bioenergy issues at EU level, and is an important source of news and information.
