Non-wood forest products

Jo Van Brusselen

Non-wood forest products (NWFPs) - also often called non-timber forest products (NTFPs) - are products of biological origin other than wood that are derived from forests or non-forest trees. They include plants or parts of plants used for medicinal purposes, fibre, food, decorative purposes, and flavour and fragrances. Many sources also consider wild and managed game, forest tourism and forest grazing as NWFPs.

The important NWFPs in Europe are: foliage, berries, mushrooms, herbs, seeds, bark, resins, dyes and craft materials.
