CreatorCentre Technique du Bois et de l'Ameublement (CTBA); Forstliche Versuchs- und Forschungsanstalt Baden-W├╝rttemberg (FVA)
DescriptionSeveral European countries were affected by the storms in December 1999. Severe damage was experienced in Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland and in some regions the wind-fallen trees represented several times the average annual harvested volume. The objective of STODAFOR (EU-Concerted Action QLK5-CT-2001-00645) was to capitalize on the knowledge gained after these storms and to disseminate the information. The "Technical Guide on harvesting and conservation of storm damaged timber" was published in 2004. Two protocols were also developed: (1) Harvesting protocol: Harmonised procedures for harvesting operations; and (2) Harmonised Protocol for log conservation.
