DescriptionEC Environmental law has existed for 25 years. More than 200 directives in the field of environment are today in force. Environmental law needs to be implemented in an effective way and that is the reason why the Commission adopted a directive in October 2008 which requires the Member States to provide for criminal sanctions. The directive has to be transposed by member states by December 2010.
