DescriptionIFER is an independent institute conducting forest research and application of forest research. It was established in 1994. Since then IFER been involved with more than hundred research projects carried out either on its own or in collaboration with a wide range of local and foreign research partners and clients. Today, IFER operates in numerous Czech and international project activities encompassing boreal, temporal and tropical regions. IFER’s research activities include: Inventory and Monitoring (development of methodology for forest inventory, development of technology and software for data collection, data processing, field campaigns); Ecosystem Processes and Functions (basic and applied research on carbon budget, nutrient balance, sustainability and global change, modeling and scenario analysis, growth models, production ecology); GIS and Remote Sensing (multicriterial geostatistical analysis in forestry and landscape ecology); Forest Management and Planning (development of methods for structurally rich forests, application of statistical inventory, development of forest management plans); Game Ecology (biology and ecology of forest game, support for game management, problem of forest grazing).
