DescriptionForest & Landscape Denmark is an independent centre for research, education, extension and consulting on forest, landscape and planning. The centre is a collaboration between the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management (IGN) and the Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO) at the University of Copenhagen. The centre was established on 1 January 2004. Forest & Landscape carries out research and developement within three main areas: (a) Forest and forest products (including Forest genetic resources, Applied ecology, Forestry and forest products, Economics, politics and operational planning, Christmas trees and greenery, Forest monitoring, Development and environmental assistance; (b) Park and Landscape (including Parks and urban landscapes, Urban and rural development); and (c) Spatial planning and outdoor recreation. Forest & Landscape is responsible for monitoring the forests in Denmark. The centre offers a wide range of educations from technical to PhD level with forest, landscape and planning: Vocational training courses in forest and landscape management; Skilled Forest and Landscape Craftsman; Forest and Landscape Engineer; Nature Interpretation education; BSc programme in natural resources management; MSc programme in forestry; MSc programme in landscape management; BSc and MSc programme in landscape architecture; Diploma in Park Management; PhD school for forest, landscape and management. The Arboretum in Hørsholm is attached to the centre and has a collection of 2000 species of woody plants. The vision of Forest & Landscape is "to establish the best possible coherence between research, education and extension within forest, landscape and planning. The department aims to generate possibilities of development for people, cities, landscapes and forests in a creative interaction between the four elements and everybody in Forest & Landscape." The Faculty of Life Sciences is one of the core partners providing the Forest and Nature for Society (FONASO) Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programme.
