DescriptionRMK is a governmental profit-making institution responsible for the administration of the state forests. As of 1 July 2008, forest management activities at RMK were divided into three sections: forest administration, forest management, and timber marketing. RMK earns income by harvesting and selling wood from forests. RMK is also responsible for other activities that do not generate income: maintaining the unique nature of Estonian forests, nature friendly forest works, provision of free recreation possibilities. RMK is a large institution and one of the biggest employers in Estonia. There are more than 1100 people working for RMK, most of them are professional foresters. RMK's headquarter is situated in Tallinn, but the departments are located all over Estonia. Forest districts perform the forest management works, tree nurseries deal with the nursery management. Recreation management department offers forest-friendly possibilities for hiking and spending the holiday in the nature. Hunting opportunities are offered through the hunting districts. There is also a 'consultation and development' department providing access to forestry expertise.
