DescriptionIEFC is an association which brings together research organizations, universities, technology transfer organizations and professional organizations that wish to be involved in scientific cooperation and in the transfer of knowledge about cultivated forests. This network originated as an initiative of the South Europe Foresters Union and its members are institutions from the Atlantic Arc. IEFC has 28 member and 7 associate member organisations (November 2004). The association is organised into 6 thematic groups: (1) Models for sustainable management; (2) socioeconomics; (3) genetics; (4) forest health; (5) soil; (6) silviculture and products. Information services available include: a directory of researchers in southwestern Europe; access to information in microsatellite/sequence databases of maritime pine (Pinus pinaster); a database of forest models (mainly those used by the French, Spanish and Portuguese members of IEFC); and a database of forest pests and diseases (as of May 2008 containing accounts of 62 important pests and diseases).
