2nd TitleNational Network for Forest Ecosystem Control
CreatorCorpo Forestale dello Stato
DescriptionThe National Network for Forests Ecosystems Control (CONECOFOR) was established by the National Forest Service (Corpo Forestale dello Stato) in 1995 in the context of the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution and to meet the obligations under the Reguation EC n.2152/2003 concerning monitoring of forests and environmental interactions in the Community (Forest Focus). The network was set to study the ecological relationships between the structural and functional components of forest ecosystems and the factors of pressure and change at the large scale (atmospheric pollution, climate change, biodiversity). The establishment of a national network aimed to unify and integrate in one project the efforts of those promoting or carrying out activities to investigate forest condition in Italy. The CONECOFOR implementation allowed an in-depth description of the main forests ecosystems in Italy. The investigations have included the most important components such as soil, vegetation, macro- and micro-climate, atmospheric pollutants, biodiversity level. Data on the monitored variables are reported in the website. The network is based on 31 permanent plots representative for the main Italian forest ecosystems.
