DescriptionThe Federal Forest Research Institute (FVA) carries out practically-oriented research and development for the forest administration and the forest enterprises in the state of Baden-Württemberg. FVA works in close cooperation with the Faculty for Forest and Environmental Sciences of the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg. The university primarily undertakes basic research. FVA has eight research departments: (1) forest growth (inventory, species and provenance, fertilization and site preparation); (2) forest ecology (forest genetics, tree breeding, forest protection); (3) soil and environment (soil science, plant nutrition, environmental monitoring); (4) forest protection (integrated pest management, plant pathology); (5) forest and society (landscape management, nature protection, game ecology); (6) forest use and forest products (forest operations, wood, wood marketing); (7) forest economics (socioeconomics, management of forest enterprises); (8) biometry and computer science (use of models for the simulation of the economics and ecology of forests and the timber trade). FVA also publishes its results in several series. The publications can be searched at the FVA website. The full text of some of the publications is available. Limited sections of website are available in English.
