DescriptionThe Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) was founded in 1992. Its mission is to develop and establish a new scientific field which could be described as Earth System Analysis (ESA). A profound understanding of natural and socioeconomic processes and their interactions is needed to describe the dynamics of global change, such as climate change and changes in human land use, based on ESA methods. PIK scientists collaborate in four research domains: Earth System Analysis; Climate Impacts and Vulnerabilities; Sustainable Solutions; Transdisciplinary Concepts and Methods. With regard to forestry, research is concerned with the possible impact of global change on forest and forestry in Europe. The main goal is to assess the nature and extent of possible impacts of global change, concentrating on: growth and species composition of forests; the economy of the forest industry; and secondary values of forests. These issues are addressed at the European, the German and the sub-national scales. Publications produced at PIK are catalogued in a publications database which is accessible from the PIK website. The full text of some of the publications are available from the website (PIK Reports) or through the publications database.
