TitleEuropean Mammal Assessment Database
CreatorIUCN; European Commission
DescriptionThe European Mammal Assessment (EMA) is a comprehensive status assessment of Europe’s 260 mammal species against the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. It is the first time that European mammals have been evaluated according to the Guidelines for Application of IUCN Red List Criteria at Regional Levels and as such is an important contribution to understanding the threats facing Europe’s mammals, and the action required to improve their status. Over 150 scientists from more than 40 countries in Europe and adjacent regions have contributed to the project. A full report was compiled and published in 2007 - The Status and Distribution of European Mammals (2007 - Temple, H.J., Terry, A.). The assessments will be periodically updated and revised. For every mammal species native to Europe or established before 1500 AD, the following data are presented: Species classification; Geographic range (including a distribution map); Red List Category and Criteria; Population information; Habitat preferences; Major threats; Conservation measures; Species utilization; Other general information; Key literature references.
