DescriptionThe Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (Thünen-Institute) is comprised of 14 specialty institutes including: Institute of Biodiversity; Institute of Wood Research (Wood Technology and Wood Biology); Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics; Institute for Forest Ecosystems; Institute of Forest Genetics. vTI pursues interdisciplinary research in the following areas: Economics (micro and macroeconomics of agriculture, forestry, timber, food and fish production); Technology; Material use of renewable natural resources; Climate; Biodiversity; Organic Farming. The Thünen-Institute is one of four German federal research institutes under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). It was created on January 1, 2008 from the German Federal Research Centre for Forestry and Forest Products (Bundesforschungsanstalt für Forst- und Holzwirtschaft - BFH), as well as the German Federal Research Centre for Fisheries, and part of the German Federal Agricultural Research Centre.
