TitleCircumpolar Arctic Vegetation Mapping Project
CreatorAlaska Geobotany Center
DescriptionThe Circumpolar Arctic Vegetation Map (CAVM) project is an international effort to map the vegetation and associated characteristics of the circumpolar region, using a common base map. The base map is a false color infrared image created from Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) satellite data and it shows the types of vegetation that occur across the Arctic, between the ice-covered Arctic Ocean to the north and the northern limit of forests to the south. The maps are available to download. The project involved an international team of arctic vegetation scientists representing the six countries of the Arctic (Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, and the USA).
