TitleFuture Forests [Sweden]
CreatorMistra - Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research
DescriptionFuture challenges are placing increasing demands on forest resources and at the same time biodiversity, recreational needs and ecosystem services need to be safeguarded. The Future Forests programme is about finding the right balance between these diverse needs. Future Forests shows what choices exist in boreal forests and explains what the likely effects of those choices will be. The programme aims to achieve this by analyzing the conflicting demands of alternative ways of using and managing forests. The goal is to produce a comprehensive knowledge base for sustainable forest use. To succeed in this task it is Future Forests ambition to serve as a flexible and effective interdisciplinary competence platform that enables researchers from various scientific disciplines to meet and collaborate with each other and with practitioners from different sectors of society. Future Forests is a Mistra (The Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research) program. The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is the host university. The research program is a joint initiative between SLU, UmeƄ University and the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden.
