DescriptionThe report of the Global Forest Resources Assessment 2005 (FRA 2005). FRA 2005 is a comprehensive assessment of forests and forestry. It examines the current status and recent trends for about 40 variables covering the extent, condition, uses and values of forests and other wooded land, with the aim of assessing all benefits from forest resources. The results are presented according to six thematic elements of sustainable forest management (extent of forest resources; forest health; biological diversity; productive functions of forest resources; protective functions of forest resources; socio-economic functions of forest resources). The information is presented for 229 countries and territories for three points in time: 1990, 2000 and 2005. The main part of the report includes 73 tables and 31 figures summarising the results. An Annex includes 20 tables presenting the results for all countries for the following. 1. Basic data on countries and areas; 2. Information status on area of forest, growing stock and biomass; 3. Extent of forest and other wooded land 2005; 4. Change in extent of forest and other wooded land 1990-2005; 5. Ownership of forest and other wooded land 2000; 6. Designated functions of forest – primary function 2005; 7. Designated functions of forest – total area with function 2005; 8. Characteristics of forest and other wooded land 2005; 9.
