DescriptionThe Forest Research and Management Institute (ICAS) is a national public institution, specialized in scientific research, technological design and investment planning and implementation of new technologies for ensuring the sustainable management of public and private forests. ICAS is authorised at national level to draw up environment impact studies and environment surveys for all activities with an impact on the forest area, and since 2000 it has been a Center of Excellency in environment protection. ICAS manages the Romanian National Forest Inventory. ICAS performs its activity in the main fields relevant to the Romanian forestry sector: Scientific research; Forest Management Planning and Forest Investment Planning; Consultancy and Specialized Forest Services. Research priorities include: Forest ecology; Forest ecophysiology; Forest pedology; Forest genetics; Forest management; Forestry techniques (related to natural stand regeneration, nurseries-forestation, stand tending and management works, as well as to wood harvesting eco-technologies); Forestry geomatics (use of GIS tools, remote sensing, photogrammetry and digital mapping); Forest protection (prognosis, prevention and control of forests pests with biological and integrated methods); Game biology and management and fish breeding.
