DescriptionThe National Forest Centre was established in 2006. The stated mission of the National Forest Centre of Slovakia is to protect and expand Slovakia's forests and increase their value to society and the environment. The responsibilities and powers are defined by the statute. They include the overall responsibility for: Forest research; Evaluation of forest resources and potential; Collection and administration of forest data; Forest planning; Thematic mapping; Forest protection; Education; Public relations. Research priorities of the centre include: Forest genetics and tree breeding; Silviculture; Forest protection and game management; Forest environment; Forest economics and forestry policy; Forest management and monitoring; Forest technology and engineering. The centre also focuses on lifelong learning in forest sector and facilitates training of forest workers and further education of forestry professionals in Slovakia. Its other activities include forest pedagogy, public relations, advisory services, rural development, etc. The reports on forestry for the Slovak Republic ZELENÁ SPRÁVA (Green Report) (Slovak and English) and Lesy na Slovensku (Slovak) are available.
