Data Source: EFI EUROFOREST Portal
TitleIUCN Species Programme
CreatorIUCN SSC - Species Survival Commission
DescriptionThe IUCN Species Programme supports the activities of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) and individual Specialist Groups, as well as implementing global species conservation initiatives. The SSC is a network of 7000 experts fighting the extinction crisis. SSC’s major role is to provide information to IUCN on biodiversity conservation, the inherent value of species, their role in ecosystem health and functioning, the provision of ecosystem services, and their support to human livelihoods. The SSC produces the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The Species Information Service (SIS) is being developed as SSC's data management initiative to address the problem of dispersed sources of data within the SSC network. The SIS aims to become a worldwide species information resource (interlinked databases of species-related information managed by SSC's network of Specialist Groups).
