DescriptionCEAM was created in 1991 under the auspices of the Valencian Autonomous Government and Bancaja. It is a Centre of Applied Research. CEAM was created as a response to the need for potentiating research and development in environmental technology in the Mediterranean countries, where applied engineering within very rigid (mono-)discipline structures has traditionally predominated. CEAM was established as a multidiscipline centre and, as such, its research has been concentrated in inter-related thematic areas where it has achieved recognized international expertise. Air Pollution Programme; Pollution Effects Programme (Research into air pollution effects on different plant communities - natural and agricultural - in the Valencia region, with the aim of developing minimisation strategies at various levels); Forest Research Programme (Research and development of new management techniques for Mediterranean conditions, especially in regard to the restoration of forests and shrublands affected by fire and desertification processes); Meteorology and Climatology Programme (Analysis of the mechanisms and meteorological conditions - at synoptic and regional scales - leading to meteorological risk situations on the Spanish east coast, with special emphasis on torrential rains and forest fires).
